A Little Prep Goes a Long Way...
If possible, try to make sure your little one is well-rested before their session. A good nap beforehand can make a big difference in helping them feel happy, playful, and ready to explore.
Please feed your little one before the session. We always start with a few portraits before the cake comes out, so having a full tummy helps keep everyone happy.
One of the biggest surprises for parents is that not every baby wants to touch the cake right away and that's completely normal!
Some babies aren't sure what to think of the frosting or simply don't like getting their hands messy. If your little one loves puffs, yogurt melts, cereal, or another favorite finger food, bring them along!
We can place a few pieces right on top of the cake to encourage your baby to reach for it. Once those little fingers touch the frosting, many babies realize it's actually pretty fun!
A favorite stuffed animal, toy, or anything that makes your baby smile can be a huge help. We'll use it behind the camera to grab their attention when needed.
* Two towels (one for backup)
* Baby wipes
* An extra outfit for the ride home
Trust me... cake smash sessions get messy!
Some babies dive face-first into the cake.
Some gently poke at the frosting.
Some decide they'd rather crawl away and explore the studio instead.
There is no "right" way to do a cake smash.
My job isn't to force smiles or make your baby eat cake - it's to capture their personality exactly as they are. Those curious looks, little giggles, messy fingers, and even the serious faces often become parents' favorite images.
The best sessions happen when everyone stays relaxed and lets your little one explore at their own pace.
The best **cake smash photos** happen when everyone is relaxed. Don't worry if things don't go exactly as planned - some of my favorite images come from the unexpected moments.
I can't wait to celebrate your little one's first birthday with you!
